Fourteen of us travelled to Belfast to attend the BAA Rising Dawn Seminar and we had six candidates in the line-up for test; two seniors and four youth members. It was a historic milestone in that these four youth candidates would be the first ever youth conversions in the history of our club.
When a youth member reaches the age of 16 they become eligable to be tested under requirements of the BAA Adult syllabus and be awarded an appropriate adult kyu grade. All four youth candidates had achieved a youth brown belt and the maximum promotion achievable was a convertion to adult 1st kyu.... and in no way guaranteed.
On the day, it was fantastic to see the hard work and comittment that was put in over the last few months paying off as each DTA candidate put in a high energy and technically strong performance in all areas of their examination, resulting in well deserved promotions.
Eoghan Conroy: Promoted to 1st kyu
Michael Eastwood: Promoted to 1st kyu
Aoife Cullen: Promoted to 1st kyu
Nikita Khimych: Promoted to 1st kyu
Brian Higgins: - Promoted to 2nd kyu
Emma Lawlor: Promoted to 3rd kyu
It's exciting for all seniors to look ahead to the prospect of training regularly with such a talented group in the coming weeks and months as we all make preparations for the upcoming World Championships.
