Aikido Seminar Antrim
This is a BAA (British Aikido Association) scheduled seminar for practitioners of Shodokan/Tomiki Aikido. However, it is open to practitioners from other Aikido Styles and Associations who would like to experience something a little different and meet Aikido practitioners in the Shodokan/Tomiki Aikido community from the UK and the island of Ireland, North and South.

Paul Bonett 6th Dan (BAA/SAF)

Paul sensei started martial arts in 1973 in Shotokan Karate. He was awarded shodan in 1977 under Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda and progressed to 4th dan in 1987. He started studying Aikido in 1980, under Brian Elgood and Gordon Murray and from 1991 focussed exclusively on Aikido progressing through the ranks to achieve 6th dan by examination under Tetsuro Nariyama Shihan in 2017.

Garrett Baxter 5th Dan (BAA)

Garrett sensei started Aikido in 1985 training with Chandra Kaur and Bob Jones in Bradford and Leeds. Garreth took over from Chandra Kaur as the principle coach of Bradford Tomiki Aikido club in 1997. Garrett has won UK National titles both in kata and team randori and has lead the Bradford junior sport Aikido team to fifteen national and regional titles over the years.
A veteran of the BAA National Squad, Garrett competed as a squad member in Osaka (2001), Leeds (2003), Katsuura (2005) and captained the BAA National team in Kyoto (2009). Garrett served as a referee at the World championships in London (2011), Kawasaki (2013), London (2017) and San Diego (2019).
Garrett remains a proud member of Leeds Central Aikido and Bradford Aikido clubs. Garrett likes nothing more than seeing junior aikido players move through the ranks to national squad level.
Alan MacQuarrie 5th Dan (SAF)

Alan MacQuarrie started his Aikido training in 1974 and later studied the Shodokan system under the technical tutelage of the late Phil Newcome sensei and Jonathon Cameron UK shidōin. Alan’s 3rd Dan was examined by Phil Newcome sensei and his 4th and 5th Dan by Tetsuro Nariyama shihan.
For many years Alan was the chairman of the Northern Ireland Aikido Association and chief instructor at Belfast Shodokan Aikido. Alan has well over thirty years of professional involvement in personal safety and self-protection.
Alan has authored two books on personal safety:
Stay Safe: Taking Control of Your Own Personal Safety in a Violent World, and the audiobook: Talk, Fight or Run.
Keeping people safe and teaching Shodokan Aikido has been a life long endeavour for Alan.
Keith McClean 5th Dan (BAA)

Keith sensei has been an active student of Aikido since 1996, he joined Tallaght Tomiki Aikido Ryu under the instruction of Karl Higgins sensei. Keith established a highly successful national Junior and Youth Development Programme in 2010. 5th Dan awarded after examination at BAA Summer School July 2022 (examined by B.Jones 8th Dan, R.Hartshorne 5th Dan, G.Baxter 5th Dan, P.Holding 4thDan, F.Burgess 4th Dan).
Founder of Dublin Tomiki Aikido, Keith Sensei is the Head Coach and the driving force behind the very successful Irish National Teams. Keith is also player-manager of the Irish National Senior Team and a veteran of the BAA national team competing at 4th ETAN Championships (Antwerp, 2014), World Championships 2015 (Gold Coast, Australia), WSAF World Championships 2017, (London), 6th ETAN Open Championships, (Netherlands, 2018), WSAF World Championships 2019, (San Diego, California) and most recently the European Championships, (London 2022). Keith started competing in 2014 and continues to represent Dublin Tomiki Aikido and Team Eire at National, European and World Championships.
