Tallaght Person of the year nomination Sports category

Dublin Tomiki Aikido has been honoured with a nomination for the prestigious Philip Preston Sport Category Award at the upcoming 41st Tallaght Person of The Year awards.

The Philip Preston award recognizes individuals and sports clubs that actively encourage participation, achieve excellence in their field, and positively enhance the profile of Tallaght through sports.

Under the dedicated leadership of our head coaches and more importantly the achievements and enthuastic contribution of our members and supporters, DTA has made significant strides in promoting Sport Aikido achieving remarkable success.  Over the past decade DTA has produced National, European and World Champions elevating the club’s status and inspiring many children and adults to take up Sport Aikido. Fostering a vibrant and inclusive community of junior and adult players in Tallaght, DTA has created a pathway to compete as a member of Team Ireland at International and World level for both Junior and Senior players.

The success and leadership by DTA was recently affirmed with securing and hosting of the first ever WSAF European Aikido Championships to take place in Ireland, at Tallaght Leisure Centre, putting Ireland on the world map of Sport Aikido, and showcasing the facilities and welcome that Tallaght has to offer.

Team Ireland took a total of 52 European medals. 20 Gold, 17 Silver, 15 Bronze across all age groups. Every member of Team Ireland showed great sportsmanship, resilance, determination and skill. The hard work in preparation by all players was evident on the day.

Team Ireland was made up of qualifying top players from Sport Aikido clubs on the island of Ireland, which included six(6) Junior players (U10), thirteen (13) Youth players (U16), two Cadet players (U19) and twenty Adults. (19+)


Clubs with qualifying players included:-  Black Mountain Tomiki Aikido (Belfast), Katsu Dojo Antrim and Dublin Tomiki Aikido (Tallaght, Dublin)


This nomination for the Philip Preston Sport category award is a welcome honour, reflecting DTA's dedication to developing sport aikido in Ireland as well as our long history and engagement within the Tallaght community not to mention delivering impressive competitive success on the world stage. We are proud of our home here in the Belgard Community Centre Tallaght and with our goals and ambitions for the future we aim to bring further recognition to Tallaght and showcase Ireland as a destination for Sport Aikido and a force to be reckoned with.
