Farewell to Chika-san

Waseda Aikido Student Chika san at Dublin Tomiki Aikido

It was with genuine sadness that we said goodbye to Chika-san who joined our dojo and trained with the senior class regularly over the past year. Her dedication, passion, and commitment to Aikido has been inspiring to all of us.

Chika is a student of Waseda University (早稲田大学) who came to Dublin in 2024 to study english before returning to Japan this month to continue her studies. Chika-san is also a student of Aikido at Waseda and at Yokohama SAC (Sports Aikido Club)

We were delighted to have Chika-san training with us during her stay in Ireland and grateful for the positive energy and enthusiasm she brought to every practice session. Her presence enriched our dojo, and we will miss her cheerful spirit and unwavering determination.

"Chika-san we wish you the very best in your future endeavors and hope that Aikido continues to be a source of strength and fellowship for you. May your path be filled with success, happiness, and new adventures.

バイバイ、ちかさん。またね!
(Bye-bye, Chika-san. See you again!)"

We look forward to welcoming another Waseda student in the next month or so.

Waseda University is closely linked to Tomiki Aikido because Kenji Tomiki, established the Waseda University Aikido Club in 1958. Tomiki Kenji was a prominent student of Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo, and Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido. He worked at incorporating competitive sporting elements into Aikido, which led to the development of Tomiki Aikido, also known as Shodokan Aikido.

The Waseda University Aikido Club became a significant center for the practice and promotion of Tomiki Aikido. The club has dominated inter-university competitions in Japan since their inception in 1969 and has produced many top proponents of Tomiki Aikido worldwide. The university also offers physical education classes in Tomiki Aikido and has multiple Aikido clubs, further solidifying its connection to Aikido in general.  Visit Aikido Waseda Aikido university club to learn more
